please stop tagging tumblr artists(or really any online artists) work as you and/or posting our work to your identity/otherkin blogs, or anything similar if it wasn’t drawn for you/you don’t have permission to do so.

If someone likes your art enough to go “ohmigosh this looks like me/feels like me/I just like this piece of art”, you should be flattered, not pissed off. Tagging a piece of art with #me doesn’t mean someone’s trying to take credit for your art or trying to say the art was for them/based off of them, and nobody takes #me as such.

Chill.

i was perfectly calm but no, i won’t “chill”; by the way, it’s not “#damn tumblr.” my name is victor, not tumblr. thanks

you have no idea how often i hear “you should be flattered” said to artists after people blatantly disrespect their wishes after they politely ask them to be respected. you missed the message of this post completely, you’re just demonstrating what i meant by how people don’t think we deserve agency over how others treat our work. i’m far from the only person bothered by this, try to see this from a not selfish perspective next time.

psa about tagging others work as “me”

please stop tagging tumblr artists(or really any online artists) work as you and/or posting our work to your identity/otherkin blogs, or anything similar if it wasn’t drawn for you/you don’t have permission to do so.

it seems like a small thing but as someone who’s had this happen to both my original work and fan work, i’ll break down what bugs me and others about this trend:

  1. we do not make our artwork for you. slapping an obnoxious #ME on someone elses artwork implies that the image was created for you/with you in mind when 99% of the time, it wasn’t.
  2. a lot of artists i see getting this treatment, like myself, are nonhuman. i, for example, post a lot of drawings of myself and tag it all as #self so people are aware, because those are literally images i drew of me. when someone takes those pictures and posts it to their identity blog, or tags it with “me”, it’s completely and directly disrespecting me as an individual. it shouldn’t need to be explained why you shouldn’t do this.
  3. this also goes for other peoples ocs, or gift work for the artists friends/commissioners, which also are not yours and are especially not you.
  4. i can’t speak for everyone on this point but a lot of artists are also not comfortable with this happening on fanart that they draw, so stop tagging fanwork as you too.

it basically boils down to “if it wasn’t made for you, then it isn’t you, so stop saying it is”. this is becoming a real issue on tumblr. it doesn’t matter if you’re joking or not.

when we check tags for comments and see a flood of “ME/SELF/ETC” “THIS IS ME” “KIN” “ID” its a really shitty thing feeling like your work has no individuality or purpose besides serving other people, because to most, those of us who are involved in creative work have no agency in general anyway; you’re making that problem worse if only on a smaller level, but it still counts.

try to put yourself in our shoes if you do this, at least. i can’t make everyone understand where i and many others are coming from, but please learn to respect artists or at least ask permission before doing this, because we work really fucking hard often for minimal/no profit/respect or just to get spat on, directly, by basically everyone, because what we do isn’t “real” work. thank you for reading.

this is probably the last time ill make a commission post

i cant do actual backgrounds in my commissions anymore because to put it simply im in a complete art block as a result of my current living situation and 90% of the time i need to be told or shown instructions on exactly what to draw if i want to draw something now or its just flat and boring. my growth is stunted and likely regressing and i cant really bring myself to draw anything like i used to

you can find examples of how i draw humans if you go through this blogs archive (i dont have any recent colored images to use as examples so i apologize. they arent an issue for me to draw though)

thanks in advance if you repost this or actually commission me. i take donations as well if youd like to commission me but theres nothing that really comes to mind that youd like me to draw (you can donate by clicking the button in this blogs sidebar)

ive removed a bunch of unneeded info here. if theres anythin commission related that you dont see here that youd like to work out with me id be happy to talk privately abt it and Work Something Out possibly

a lot of fast drawings for the battle
